The VetFund Foundation is pleased to announce that Julian Cañete has stepped into the role of Chair, following his tenure on the Board, most recently serving as Vice Chair.
Julian brings decades of leadership in California’s business and policy communities to this position. As President and CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, he represents the interests of over 800,000 Hispanic-owned businesses across the state and has long been committed to expanding opportunity through strategic partnerships and public policy. His experience and community-driven approach align closely with VetFund’s mission to support California’s veterans and their families not only during transition, but throughout their civilian lives.

Throughout the year, VetFund works alongside CalVet and other partners to connect leaders from business, government, and the military community through events, partnerships, and legislative engagement that create pathways and improve outcomes for veterans and their families. Under Julian’s leadership, the organization looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to expand its efforts in support of California’s veteran community.
Julian succeeds Dale Smith, whose steadfast commitment and service helped guide VetFund’s growth and deepen its connection to California’s veteran community. A decorated U.S. Navy veteran with 26 years of service and longtime leader within the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dale brought a lifetime of dedication to those who served. His leadership as Chair helped strengthen VetFund’s mission and impact, and we are grateful for his continued support.
VetFund is excited for this next chapter and the continued opportunity to serve those who have served.
