Our Work

The VetFund Foundation was created in 2006 to continue the work of the California Department of Veterans Affairs. In 2009, the VetFund Foundation became a stand-alone entity and incorporated as a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Corporation 20-5195691 in the State of California.

The mission of the VetFund Foundation is to support projects and programs that enrich the lives of California veterans and their families, and active-duty service members, and to advocate for veterans’ issues in the state.

Projects and Foundation Grants

The VetFund Foundation is proud to have funded projects with support in excess of $1,635,000, including:

  • 2016–Present: CalVet/VetFund Foundation Leadership Summit – 300+ key stakeholders and leaders

  • Annual VetFund California Legislative Receptions

  • 2023: 75th Anniversary Reception of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948

  • 2021: CalVet Veterans Advocacy Forum – statewide participation

  • Governor’s Inter-Agency Council on Veterans Affairs

  • Orange County Hall of Heroes

  • F-Stop Digital Photo Therapy Program

  • New Directions – Chris’ Place: Housing for OIF/OEF homeless veterans

  • East Bay Veterans Fair: Support for homeless veterans programs

  • American Legion Auxiliary: Postage for care packages to deployed troops

  • California Veterans Home, Barstow: Stand-up gardening plots for wheelchair-bound veterans

  • California Veterans Home, Yountville: Funding for motorized wheelchair pushers

  • Troops to Teachers: Funding for returning veterans pursuing teaching careers

  • Mexican American Veterans Memorial Rehabilitation Project

  • Our Military Kids: Support for military families and their dependents

  • America at Work: Outreach for returning veterans

  • 20th Anniversary of the Vietnam Memorial: Celebration honoring Vietnam veterans

  • Gold Star License Plate Program: Recognition for families of fallen service members

  • Honor Flights: Sending WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington, DC free of charge

  • Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Program
